3/8/2010 The temps as well as the rain showers this week will continue to melt away the trail base. Much of the trail base is still there, however it continues to melt thinner and narrower. There are now many bare spots along the trail. The trails are still open for riding until April 1st. The grooming equipment will not be going out this week due to the temps.
GUIDED TRAIL RIDES - Wednesday afternoons -If interested please contact Ollie's Service in Alexandria. (320 763-4455) There may be announcements about guided rides on Sunday afternoons soon. The DATA fun run will not be held this year due to the fatality on the Central Lakes Trail.
Please respect the property of our landowners. We're asking all snowmobilers to please stay on the trail.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Snowmobilers using the new Buttermilk Trail must use County 46 from State Hwy 27 E South about 2 blocks to where they can actually move off the road surface. For that distance you are required to use the bike lane going either direction as there is no legal right of way to use. The appropriate snowmobile crossing is at the lights with the flow of traffic.
Special Announcement: The Commissioner of Natural Resources, with the support of MnUSA, has lifted the stud ban on some of the black topped state trails in Minnesota. You may get official announcement of all locations after the MnUSA convention this weekend. THE CENTRAL LAKES TRAIL ACROSS DOUGLAS COUNTY IS INCLUDED AND NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN TO STUDDED SNOWMOBILES. The signage banning studs will have to remain up until spring when the ground thaws out and existing signage can be removed. We're asking snowmobilers who have studs to not abuse this privalege when riding the Central Lakes Trail.
